Embratur promotes Foz in the Chilean market

Chile is one of the most important countries to Brazil's tourism destinations.

 

Foz do Iguaçu was one of six Brazilian destinations presented in detail to a hundred travel agents from Chile, by the Discover Brazil Committee, a partner of Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Institute). Destinations were promoted in three Chilean cities in September: Viña del Mar, considered the touristism capital of Chile; La Serena, part of the country’s tourist region; and Santiago, capital of and largest city in Chile.

 

Besides Foz do Iguaçu, travel agents also learned more about Rio de Janeiro, Búzios, Pipa, Florianópolis and Camboriú. Brazil is one of the top tourism destinations for Chileans, especially when the focus is vacation time.

 

A second capacity-building action, directed at 40 professionals, took place in Santiago, with the special participation of a committee of 15 hotel owners from Brazil. Besides being given deeper insight into Brazilian destinations, they were also presented with 14 different hotels, guesthouses and resorts in Rio de Janeiro, Pernambuco, Bahia, Alagoas and Ceará. A newsletter carrying the program for specific Brazilian cities was sent out to 800 agents from Chile.

 

Embratur is backing the action in countries where the Committee will be visiting, to bolster the image of Brazil abroad and to boost tourism demands throughout the year, explained the organization's president, Mr. Vinicius Lummertz.

 

"Chile is one of the leading sources of tourists visiting Brazil and the strategic partnership with the Discover Brazil Committee is fundamental in heating up the Chilean market. We already know how popular our beaches and other natural wonders are among this public and our intention is to constantly increase the range of options for foreign tourists, highlighting the very best of what our country has to offer", he emphasized.

 

About the Committee

 

The Discover Brazil Committees, which rely on a partnership with Embratur, are already established in 11 countries on the American continent, thanks to the articulation between the institute, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Trade and Investment Promotion Department and Brazilian embassies.

 

They are comprised of tour operators, travel agencies, hospitality companies, airlines and travel insurance companies rooted in these markets, and are focused on debating, planning and implementing institutional actions to promote Brazil as a tourist destination. The Committee has been active in Chile since 2005.
